BJP rules out mid-term polls in Goa

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s State unit general secretary and South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar on Thursday ruled out mid-term polls in Goa.
Mr. Sawaikar blamed the Congress for “trying to create confusion by raising the bogey of mid-term elections in the State”.
Goa is witnessing a political turmoil due to the prolonged illness of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. “The BJP-led coalition government will not only complete its five-year term but also give a smooth, development-centric governance to the State,” Mr. Sawaikar said.
“The statement by some of the Congress leaders that Goa is heading for mid-term polls, is nothing but a futile attempt to create confusion,” he said. The clueless Goa Congress is baffled by the development agenda and its effective implementation by Parrikar-led govt,” he further said, adding, “Congress is only scared of its imminent defeat in both the by-polls as well as in the Lok Sabha polls.”
This statement comes after those made by Congress president Girish Chodankar and Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar two days ago that the BJP was trying to engineer mid-term polls in Goa, along with the 2019 general elections and was likely to dissolve the Assembly soon.
