Meghalaya And Mizoram CMs Meet Rajnath Singh, Express Unhappiness Over Citizenship Bill

A delegation of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) led by the State’s Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Friday to express their unhappiness over the passing of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 by the Lok Sabha on January 8.
The Chief Minister briefed the Union Minister Rajnath Singh that all the six coalition partners including the UDP, BJP, HSPDP, PDF, NCP and Independents were of the view that the Bill will disturb the social fabric of Meghalaya and the North East by posing serious law and order problem in the region.
“The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill will affect North East to a large extent. The Bill is against the spirit of the people of North East as this will have serious repercussions and will create law and order problems in the region,” said the Chief Minister.
Chief Ministers Conrad and Zoramthanga had a detailed discussion with the Union Home Minister to express the concerns and dissatisfaction of the people of Northeast against the Bill.
