‘Goa Identity Day’ to be celebrated by DKA

January 16, 1967 is remembered as ‘Opinion Poll Day’ in Goa. It was when a historic decision was taken by people against the merger of Goa with Maharashtra. Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) celebrates this historic day every year and remembers Jack de Sequeira, who is known to all Goans as the ‘Father of the Opinion Poll’.
After the Opinion Poll, Goa maintained its status as a Union Territory. Later, Konkani was declared as the official language of the State of Goa, and later Goa was granted Statehood. Thus, through this historic event our ancestors saved ‘Goa’s Identity’ or ‘Goychi Osmitai’.
Dalgado Konknni Akademi celebrates this day of great significance as ‘Goycho Osmitai Dis’. Dalgado Konknni Akademi is organising a special programme at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao (Black Box) on January 16 at 4 p.m.
Retired judge, Moti Keni will be the chief guest at the programme. He will address the audience on ‘The Right to Information and its Benefits’. DKA president, Tomazinho Cardozo will preside over the function. There will also be a cultural programme on the occasion.
