Sagar MLA urges govt. to depute scientists

Expressing concern over Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD), also known as monkey fever, spreading in Sagar taluk of Shivamogga district, Bharatiya Janata Party MLA H. Halappa has urged the government to depute a team of scientists and medical experts to the affected area to find the ways and means of checking the spread of the disease.
The MLA, who represents Sagar, told reporters here on Thursday that the disease had not been reported in this taluk for the last 40 years. The resurfacing of the disease had caused concern among people, he said and accused the Health Department of not taking the issue seriously. He expressed concern that there was a fear of the disease spreading fast if effective measures were not taken.
