Ahead of 2019 polls, BJP ‘strengthens’ the grass roots

Even as it waits for instructions from Delhi on forming alliances in Tamil Nadu ahead of the general election, the State unit of the BJP has been taking efforts to “strengthen” the party at the grass roots.
Party leaders claim they are on track to form committees in all 66,000-odd booths in the State by the end of the year.
This is in line with the national strategy to activate booth committees, spelt out by the party’s president, Amit Shah, during his July 9 visit to Chennai.
By the time Mr. Shah visited, the State unit led by Tamilisai Soundararajan had completed the formation of ‘shaktikendras’ — comprising five booth committees.
During his July speech, the national president had given a September-end deadline to form all booth committees.
