The counting of votes is underway to elect a new assembly in Mizoram, the results for which will be out by evening. Mizo National Front is leading on 25 seats, while Congress has nine seats. Bharatiya Janata Party is leading on one seat currently.
The main parties in the fray are the Congress, Mizo National Front and the Bharatiya Janata Party. The Vidhan Sabha elections are important because this will have a strong impact on the upcoming Lok Sabha election 2019.
Mizoram Assembly Election 2018, on all the 40 Vidhan Sabha constituencies, was held in a single phase on November 28, 2018. The counting of the votes polled in the Mizoram Assembly Election 2018 will take place today, along with other four states. The Assembly Election 2018 schedule was declared on October 6 and the model code of conduct came into force soon after the announcement by the Election Commission.
