Drive against unlicensed fish transportation continues

Ranked by the non-compliance of FDA guidelines by the Margao wholesale fish traders, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Saturday warned of more stringent measures against those who are not abiding by the guidelines.
Not a single fish trader operating at the wholesale fish market has obtained a trade license from the Margao municipal council nor registered with the FDA for conducting business.
The fish traders will not be allowed to take the food and drugs administration for granted, Rane insisted, adding that FDA guidelines must be followed by the traders.
The crackdown on the unlicensed fish transportation from Maharashtra and Karnataka has continued at the Goa borders. On Friday night, three vehicles carrying fish from Maharashtra were sent back from the Patradevi check-post by the FDA teams for not carrying valid documents.
