Sabarimala protests : Kerala shutdown throws life out of gear, Hindu outfits protest arrest of leaders

Thousands of pilgrims offered prayers at Lord Ayyappa temple in Sabrimala early Saturday, the first day of Malayalam month of ‘Vrischikom,’ even as a 12-hour shutdown against the preventive detention of a Hindu Aikya Vedi leader began. Pilgrims, including children, queued up in large numbers since the temple opened at 3 am, PTI reported.
Rightwing Hindu outfits have called for a dawn to dusk shutdown in Kerala Saturday in protest against the arrest of a senior Sangh Parivar leader who was on the pilgrimage to Sabarimala Lord Ayyappa temple. VHP state president S J R Kumar alleged that Hindu Aikyavedi state President K P Sasikala was arrested by the police near Marakkoottam near Sabarimala at 2.30 am on Saturday, news agency PTI reported.
