MHA Warned Kerala of Protests at Sabarimala, Govt Failed to Take Note

While Kerala is in the eye of the storm over the entry of women in Sabarimala temple, it turns out that the state government had prior information about various groups creating a ruckus on the day of the reopening of the hill shrine, said reports on Friday.
The letter was issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs to the state government and was sent out to the chief secretaries and DGPs of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, asking them to prevent any law and order situation as well as maintain law and order in their respective states. Dated October 16, the letter was issued a day before the gate of the temple were opened for the devotees of Lord Ayyappa. The letter says that civil, women rights activists and the Left parties “have been campaigning to in favour of women’s entry into the shrine and actively using women to do so on 17.10.2018.”
It added, “Opposing groups/activists have threatened that they would not allow entry of women inside the shrine on that day. Hindu outfits plan to organize protest programmes on 17.10.2018 against Hon’ble Court’s order at Nilackal village in Pathanamthitta district and Erumeli village in Kottayam districts.”
