Mining may not resume next month: Gaude

Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude on Tuesday opined that mining operations are unlikely to resume in the state in November 2018 even if the Parliament adopts an amendment to the Mines and Mineral Development and Regulation Act during its forthcoming winter session.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Gaude said, “I am of the opinion that even if the Parliament amends the MMDR Act in the forthcoming winter session, mining activities may resume in Goa only in November 2019.” He said the government has to comply with the directions and guidelines issued by the Supreme Court on the resumption of mining operations.
It is pertinent to note here that Minister for Public Works and senior MGP leader Ramakrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar has time and again maintained that mining activities would resume by November this year.
