Congress, JD(S) leaders sit down to thrash out strategy to counter BJP

Top leaders of the ruling Congress-Janata Dal (S) coalition huddled together at former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s residence here on Friday to discuss strategies to ward off the alleged attempts of the Bharatiya Janata Party to topple the government by luring MLAs to its side. This came a day after Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and State BJP president B.S. Yeddyurappa indulge in a virulent war of words, resulting in the escalation of the ongoing political tussle. Mr. Kumaraswamy, Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara, Water Resources Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Dinesh Gundu Rao, and its working president Eshwar Khandre attended the meeting. They took stock of the situation and discussed strategies to ensure the MLAs of the ruling parties remained united, a source in the Congress said. “In today’s meeting, it was resolved to foster greater bonding between the coalition partners.”
