T.N. mulls options in Sterlite case

With the National Green Tribunal (NGT) granting Vedanta Ltd access to the administrative section of the Sterlite Copper smelter in Thoothukudi, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Sunday chaired a meeting of Ministers and officials to discuss the future course of action.
Sources privy to the meeting said that the Chief Minister discussed all the legal options available with the State government, which was totally against any activity in the unit, especially since it had sealed the facility soon after the firing incident in which 13 persons were killed. Though the NGT granted Vedanta access to the administrative section of Sterlite last week, it had ruled out resumption of the production process. The company had also challenged the State government’s action of sealing the plant.
