State universities ‘neglected’, says BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party has expressed concern over the State government’s claims that Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan was satisfied with the performance of the universities claiming that the universities were “totally neglected” by the current dispensation. The BJP took strong exception to the comments made by Deputy Chief Minister (Education) Kadiyam Srihari after a meeting of the vice-chancellors and senior officials in the city on Wednesday. BJP floor leader in Assembly G. Kishan Reddy said vice-chancellors were not appointed to several universities and universities and institutions of higher learning were being discriminated against by the government.
