A tardy process, creating massive insecurity: Rahul Gandhi on NRC

Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday expressed his concern at the BJP government’s execution of the National Register of Citizens (NRC). In a Facebook post, he said it was a tardy process that was creating insecurity among Indian citizens because of missing names.
The Congress has also asked the Centre to convene an all-party meeting to discuss the fallout of having 4 million residents in the doubtful category of citizens. Sources told that the issue was discussed at the party’s brainstorming meet that was attended by senior leaders like Ghulam Nabi Azad.
“There are reports pouring in from all corners of Assam of Indian citizens finding their names missing in the draft NRC, creating massive insecurity in the State. Clearly, after spending close to ₹1,200 crore, the execution of this critical and highly sensitive exercise has been tardy. The Government must move swiftly to resolve this crisis,” Mr. Gandhi wrote on his official Facebook page.
Mr. Gandhi maintained that the NRC was initiated by the UPA under Manmohan Singh to fulfil the commitment made in the Assam Accord. “However, the manner in which this exercise has been undertaken leaves much to be desired,” he said.
