Minister wants NREGS work to be put on fast-track

Panchayat Raj Minister Jupally Krishna Rao said that work taken up under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) should be speeded up. Compared to previous years, the quantum of NREGS works have gone up significantly but the pace should be speeded up, he said. Speaking at the meeting of the NREGS Council held at the Telangana State Institute of Panchayat Raj and Rural Development at Rajendranagar here on Saturday, the Minister said that only when the local representatives are involved in the programme can the government achieve the set targets. At least 60% of labour with job cards should get minimum 100 man days under the NREGS, he said.
