JD(S)' M Krishna Reddy was today elected Deputy Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. As the House met, Speaker Ramesh Kumar initiated the process to elect the Deputy Speaker, following which senior JD(S) member K M Shivalinge Gowda proposed Reddy's name while his colleague K Gopalaiah seconded it. The proposal to elect Reddy was adopted by a voice vote. BJP had not fielded any candidate. Congratulating Reddy, Kumaraswamy referred to the high standards set by Kumar for the House and expressed hope that the Deputy Speaker would also follow suit.
