Stalin wants resolution

Opposition leader M.K. Stalin urged the State government to hold a Cabinet meeting and adopt a resolution for the closure of the Sterilte copper smelter in Thoothukudi.
Recalling the observations made by the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on the order issued by the State government for the closure of the unit, Mr. Stalin said the government should take a policy decision on the issue.
Speaker P. Dhanapal, however, intervened to stay that any debate on the issue should be avoided as the case would be taken up for further hearing on June 22. While he allowed Mr. Stalin to record his speech, he expunged a particular word from his speech.
