The State Government is actively examining proposals to make provisions for fish passages in different reservoirs to enable them to move easily in the course of the river.
Fish passages or canals for fish enabling their migration has been contemplated as experience showed that structures in the course of rivers like irrigation projects, hydro power generation projects and others hamper free movement of migratory fish species. Long distance migration is the lifeline of many fish species for their physiological requirement like spawning, breeding, seasonal habitat change and related activities, but the absence of provisions for their free passage was affecting their reproduction.
