MMD crest gates to be in place by year-end, says Harish Rao
The crest gates of the Mid Manair Dam (MMD) reservoir would be fixed by this year December-end and water would be impounded to its full capacity of 26 tmcft, Minister for Irrigation T. Harish Rao said.
He laid the foundation stone for the lift irrigation scheme from MMD to Temple tank (Gudi cheruvu) in Vemulawada temple town on Tuesday. The government had decided to lift water to a height of 30 meters and provide water to the temple shrine at a cost of ₹20 crore. This would solve the water problem at the shrine and for the pilgrims, he added.
Flaying the opposition parties for raising a hue and cry over every minor issue, he said that the Telangana Rashtra Samiti government had taken up four lakh cubic meters of work in three years when the Congress failed to do it in 10 years. The government had provided ₹850 crore for relief and rehabilitation, he said assuring to the problems of project land oustees. The government would ensure that every oustee gets suitable compensation and rehabilitation, he promised.
The government was planning to provide irrigation for the second crop in 25,000 acres in the district from Sripada Yellampalli project. He said that they would provide tap water connection to each and every household in the Vemulawada temple town under Mission Bhagiratha programme in the coming three months.
