Cong confident of sweeping SHC polls: ex-Mizoram CM Lal Thanhawla
Mizoram Congress president and former state chief minister Lal Thanhawla on Friday expressed confidence that his party would win the first Sinlung Hills Council (SHC) polls.
Addressing a political session at Congress Bhavan at Aizawl, the five-time former chief minister said the chance of Congress and its allies sweeping the polls is very high.
“I hope the people of SHC area will vote for the candidates projected by the Congress.
Its allies as a token of gratitude to the grand old party for restoring peace in the area by signing a peace accord with the Hmar militants,” he said.
SHC was established in July last year as a result of the peace accord signed between Congress government headed by Lal Thanhawla and the erstwhile underground Hmar People’s Convention (Democratic) or HPC (D) on April 2 that year.
