Siddaramaiah appointed as Leader of Opposition
- AICC president Sonia Gandhi formally appointed Siddaramaiah as leader of the opposition in the state legislative assembly.
- Siddaramaiah’s confidante SR Patil was appointed leader of the opposition in the legislative council.
- The decision comes as a huge setback to Siddaramaiah’s adversaries in the party.
- Siddaramaiah now ceases to be a member of the Congress Working Committee, the highest decision-making body of the party.
- Factionalism in the Karnataka Congress unit was at the fore during a meeting convened by senior party leader Madhusudan Mistry.
