Maharashtra Assembly Polls: NCP out with 1st candidates' list; Mundes, Kshirsagars to face off

  • Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar announced five names in the first list of his party candidates for the upcoming assembly elections scheduled in October-November.
  • The list pitches Leader of Opposition in Upper House and NCP MLC Dhananjay Munde against his sister and BJP minister Pankaja Munde in Parli constituency, Sandeep Kshirsagar against his uncle – Shiv Sena minister and ex-NCP MLA Jaydutt Kshirsagar in Beed, among others.
  • Pawar, who is on a state tour, was in Beed on Wednesday where he had a meeting with senior party leaders and decided to announce the five NCP candidates' name.

  • Vijay Singh Pandit from Gevrahi, Prakash Salunkhe from Mazalgaon and Namita Mundada from Kej will be on the ballot. Dhananjay Munde had lost the election to his sister in 2014.
  • The Shiv Sena and the BJP had poached the 29 NCP and Congress leaders including sitting MLAs.
