MP offers help to kin of man stuck in Kuwait

Family members of Darshan Singh (32) of Heerpur village, who has been languishing in a Kuwait jail, are relieved after local MP Manish Tewari took up the matter with Indian embassy officials in Kuwait. Tewari said the embassy was aware of the case and one of the senior officials had met Darshan Singh in detention. Victim’s brother Gurcharan Singh said his brother had been working as driver in Kuwait since 2012 and after spending a vacation at home again returned to his job in 2017. Darshan’s visa was to expire in April and he handed over the documents to his employer for its renewal, he said.

The employer could not get the visa extended and by the time it got expired and Darshan was about to leave the country when he was arrested at Kuwait airport, said Gurcharan Singh. He said they offered to pay the penalties and asked the employer to arrange his release, but to no avail. The relatives of Darshan Singh brought the matter to notice of the MP recently.
Tewari, however, said he was told by the embassy officials that Darshan had been detained because of some dispute between the company he was working with and the person who sponsored him. The prison officials told the embassy officials that they were trying to summon the sponsors, but they had not been cooperating.
