CBI files FIR in phone-tapping case

The Central Bureau of Investigation filed a First Information Report (FIR) on Friday in the phone-tapping case. This is expected to become a political hot potato for JD(S) and former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy. The BJP government in the State had handed over the probe to the CBI into the alleged phone-tapping of bureaucrats, politicians, and their associates in the State during August 2018 to July-end 2019, a period when Mr. Kumaraswamy was Chief Minister.
Charge against police
It is alleged that the Bengaluru City Police tapped phones of MLAs, leaders, and their associates during the political crisis that brought down the JD(S)-Congress coalition government. Several rebels had alleged their phones were tapped.
