20 lakh building workers rendered jobless: Naidu

Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly N. Chandrababu Naidu said the price of a unit of sand during the TDP regime was ₹1,200, but now it is ₹10,000 because of the government’s ineptitude.
Mr. Naidu said in a press release that about 20 lakh construction workers were rendered jobless and demanded that the sand policy be brought out without further delay and persecution of workers ended.
The TDP organised protests across the State, the first major one against the YSRCP government, against the “steep rise in the price of sand and its shortage.”
Participating in one such protest at Mangalagiri in Guntur district, TDP national general secretary Nara Lokesh said lakhs of workers were starving due to the shortage of sand which brought the construction activity to a grinding halt, but the government was least bothered about their plight.
Sand became more costly than cement but the government did nothing to bring it down even as the workers lost their livelihood, he regretted.
