Mumbai ka Manifesto: No parking space, congested roads irks daily commuters

One thing that Mumbaikar always dream of is space to park vehicles and congestion free roads on which one can ride without jostling clutch and brake. There are already 35 lakh vehicles on the roads of Mumbai. Making things worse are the auto rickshaws and taxis on road who cry foul over disappearing parking stands. This in turn is creating traffic jams and double parking. One of the most important things that the government should prioritize is to create more space for vehicles for parking.
The black and yellow cabbies had over 3000 stands for their parking each having a capacity of at least 5-7 taxis for their fleet of 42000-odd taxis. However now these stands have been removed for works of ongoing Metro rail across the city. The unions claim that the island city had several such stands namely at Grant Road, Jacob Circle, Mahalaxmi, Jijamata Nagar, Worli etc.
