Saligao SWMF expansion to be completed within a year: Govt

The Solid Waste Management Facility (SWMF) at Saligao will cater the waste generated by village panchayats and municipal councils from talukas of Pernem, Bicholim, Sattari along with Bardez, once the facility expands its capacity of waste treatment from 100 tonnes per day to 250 tonnes per day. The Government has set deadline of 2021 to achieve 100 percent segregation of waste at source in the State. 
The State government in its compliance report on solid waste management submitted before National Green Tribunal (NGT) has said that at present the Saligao facility, handles waste generated from 27 panchayats from the coastal belt.  The State has initiated steps to enhance the treatment capacity of the said plant at Saligao from its existing 100 tonnes per day (TPD) to 250 tonnes per day and the expansion is scheduled to be completed within a period of 12 months and will cater to village panchayats and municipal councils from the talukas of Pernem, Bicholim, Sattari and Bardez.  The State has informed about its ongoing process of setting up 100-TPD Biodigestor facility at Bainguinim within 24 months to cater to village panchayats and municipal councils in Tiswadi and Ponda talukas.
