Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan reaches Kozhikode airport

With no let-up in rain, heavy downpour continued to hit many parts of the country. The death toll due to floods in Kerala reached 85, while in Karnataka more than 40 people died in rain-related accidents. On Monday, six people were reportedly buried in landslides in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. The situation continued to remain grim, as swirling waters in the district washed away two buildings. Heavy rains also triggered a landslide near Harishankar temple in western Odisha. Several devotees, who had gathered at the temple faced difficulty as slurry mud flowed heavily from the hilltop. However, authorities said there were no reports of casualties. While State authorities in Maharashtra said the death toll due to floods crossed 43. Eight days after floods rattled Kolhapur and Sangli districts of Maharashtra, the National Highway 4 that connects Mumbai with Bengaluru was partially opened on Monday.
