MIMER to be reinstated, says former CM Lal Thanhawla

Former Mizoram chief minister and state Congress president Lal Thanhawla on Friday lambasted the Mizo National Front (MNF) government for renaming state's premier medical institution, Mizoram Institute of Medical Education and Research (MIMER).
Addressing a political session at Congress Bhawan in Aizawl, Lal Thanhawla said his government had established MIMER to be the state's premier medical college as well research centre. He said the institution was designed to offer post-graduate course in various disciplines.
He alleged that the MNF government headed by chief minister Zoramthanga has demoted the institution to only under-graduate college. "When the medical college was started as state's referral hospital, the previous MNF government had turned it into a poultry and animal farm," he alleged.
