Kamal Nath government to construct 'Hi-tech Gaushalas' with CSR funds from Birla group

In a major push to the gaushala agenda of Kamal Nath led Congress government in Madhya Pradesh, the Chairman of Aditya Birla Group, Kumar Mangalam Birla has given nod for construction of cowsheds with the corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds. With its soft Hindutva stand, the cowsheds are on the priority list of the Congress government in the state. In the recently concluded budget session of the state assembly, MP had become the second state after the neighbouring Uttar Pradesh to have official budget provisions for the conservation of cow.

The government had provisioned Rs 132 crore for 1000 gaushalas in the state. Animal husbandry minister Lakhan Singh Yadav said the government has decided construction of 1000 gaushalas in the first phase and the work in 957 gaushalas has already begun. After meeting with Reliance chief Mukesh Ambani on Wednesday, Kamal Nath had a meeting with Birla on Thursday evening. He gave nod for the construction of 100 “high-tech gaushalas “ in 18 months, highly placed sources who attended the meeting told TOI. Sources also said that auto giant Mahindra and Mahindra has “ expressed interest” in setting up of electrical vehicle plant at Pithampur industrial estate near Indore. Managing director of the Mahindra & Mahindra Pawan Goenka discussed the issues of e-auto and e-rickshaw production.

“In the same meeting a proposal for e-auto operations in Indore and a resort in Pench tiger reserve was also presented”, sources said. The chief minister also had a meeting with Shapoorji Pallonji group for the development of smart cities, hospitals and novel financed infrastructure projects on annuity and hyerannunity models. The meeting was also attended by among others two cabinet colleagues of Kamal Nath- tourism minister Surendra Singh Baghel and urban administration minister Jaiwardhan Singh. Kamal Nath said, “ the EWS housing for the urban poor is on the priority list of the state government. He also discussed in detail the housing projects and models for the urban poor of other state governments.
