Important not to destroy PSC’s credibility: Pinarayi Vijayan

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday said the credibility of Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) is important and it must not be weakened.

Addressing media after the cabinet meeting here. He was responding to questions regarding accused in the University college stabbing case securing top ranks in the PSC police constable rank list. “There is no need to doubt the PSC in this regard. PSC’s credibility is important and it must not be destroyed. That’s the government’s stance,” the CM said. Pinarayi Vijayan recollected an earlier incident when a recommendation to take action against a former PSC chairman had come up to him. “Back then he was known as a Congress leader. I had two choices; leave the matter for vigilance to probe or conduct a departmental investigation. I chose the latter because of PSC’s credibility. Later a proper investigation was held. We must not take a stand that destroys the credibility of PSC,” he said. Kerala PSC is an institution that conducts around 200 examinations and handles over one crore applications each year. Though Kerala is a small state, there are no other state PSC’s that handle this many applications. PSC has clear procedure and structure regarding conducting examinations, CM said.
