Complaint filed against Dy Speaker

Social activist Adv Aires Rodrigues on Sunday filed a police complaint against Deputy Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly Isidore Fernandes for allegedly holding Portuguese nationality. In his complaint before Panjim Police Station, Rodrigues alleged that Fernandes, the Canacona MLA, has committed criminal offences under the Citizenship Act, 1955, and Section 177, 181, 419 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code and under the Representation of People’s Act.
The complainant has sought that a FIR be registered against Fernandes and the same be speedily investigated without fear or favour whatsoever in accordance with law. The complaint copy has been forwarded to Governor Dr Mridula Sinha, Speaker of Legislative Assembly Rajesh Patnekar and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.  Pointing out that the Deputy Speaker is a Portuguese National and not an Indian Citizen, Rodrigues in his complaint has stated that the birth of Fernandes was registered in the Civil Registration Office of Beja in Portugal as Assento de Nascimento No 2043/2014 on April 22, 2014.
