Patil urges Yediyurappa to cancel Delhi trip

Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa’s scheduled visit to New Delhi on Monday to discuss Cabinet expansion with central leaders of the BJP is now under the Congress lens.
As five districts in north Karnataka are reeling under severe floods caused by the swelling Krishna, Congress leader and former Minister H.K. Patil (in picture) on Sunday urged the Chief Minister to cancel his Delhi visit. “Please cancel your trip to New Delhi and visit flood-affected north Karnataka instead,” Mr. Patil said in a letter to Mr. Yediyurappa.
In what is being seen in political circles as stepping up of pressure on the newly installed government, the Congress, while on the one hand, is taunting the BJP for not expanding the Cabinet though north Karnataka is witnessing floods, on the other, it is asking Mr. Yediyurappa to cancel his Delhi trip.
The Chief Minister’s Delhi visit is being seen within the BJP as a necessity to get clearance from the central unit for the list of Cabinet hopefuls. In fact, it was only after Mr. Patil’s letter that the Chief Minister’s office announced that Mr. Yediyurappa would undertake an aerial survey of the flood-affected districts on Monday.
