Govt plans to make the CM Goa University’s pro-chancellor

In a move, which aims at having control over Goa University’s functioning, the Chief Minister would be the pro-chancellor on the State-run University. CM Pramod Sawant also said that the clerical and multi-tasking posts in the University would be exclusively reserved for Goans, while in case of appointment of professors and higher posts, relaxation in the domicile condition. 
Speaking on the Demand for Grants on Education, Sawant said it’s necessary to have government representation in Goa University, when it is run by the government. “We have decided to have pro-chancellor post which will be headed by the Chief Minister himself,” Sawant said. He said that directions have been issued that a Bill in this regards be moved during the next Assembly Session. 
He added that one of the criteria for vacancies in Goa University will be having a domicile certificate as a compulsory clause for ‘C’ class and clerical posts. “But in the other posts like that of professors and higher posts, if they don’t get the required manpower in Goa, then they will have to look outside Goa. The relaxation of domicile certificate would be given such posts,” added Sawant.
