Tight security in A.P. to foil ‘Chalo Assembly’ rally by MRPS

Police made elaborate security arrangements following the call for a ‘Chalo Assembly’ protest by the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) on July 30. The call was in protest against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s statement on categorisation of Scheduled Castes.
Many check posts were set up in Krishna and Guntur districts and checks were conducted at bus and railway stations to prevent the MRPS activists from heading towards the capital region to take part in the protest. Many MRPS activists were taken into preventive custody at different places in Krishna district and Vijayawada. Police stopped APSRTC bus services to the Assembly area as a preventive measure.
Check posts were in place at Prakasam Barrage, Tadepalli, Kanaka Durgamma Varadhi and other points. No permission had been granted for the MRPS protest and Section 144 was under force, said Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Ravi Shankar Ayyannar.
