MLAs seek action plan for unemployed educated youth

The growing unemployment amongst educated youths was the major concern raised in the  the House, while seeking an action plan from the govt to weed-out this serious issue plaguing the State. The legislators, cutting across party lines, said that the youth are disturbed and frustrated due to lack of employment opportunities as govt has failed to create quality jobs to accommodate these educated youths.
Former CM Pratapsingh Rane sought to know the action plan the govt has in place to provide gainful employment to those educated youths, who are currently jobless. He said that despite growing unemployment being a major issue, the govt has failed to tackle it. MGP MLA Sudin Dhavalikar spoke about how  IT graduates, engineers, are moving out of State for jobs and that as per govt records, almost 1,000 mechanic engineers are without job. He also claimed that while looking for white collar jobs, Goans are not taking up jobs where there is hard work and are thus reliant on migrants.
BJP MLA Dayanand Sopte questioned govt’s policy to accommodate the educated youths, who are at present feeling frustrated. “The unemployment rate in Goa is very high. Also, the number of educated jobless youths is on rise. We are not able to create the required environment for them. There are large number of IT pass outs, graduates, who are forced to work for peanut salaries,” Sopte said adding ‘we need to attract industries providing quality jobs to our locals’.
BJP MLA Babush Monserrate said that there is hue and cry due to increasing unemployment and spoke about  how several migrants have changed their surnames with local names in a bid to get jobs in various govt as well as private sector. He demanded that govt should put in place a system to check that Goans employed in private sector are paid enough salaries.
