Odisha farmers spend Rs 2,403 to produce a quintal of paddy, get only Rs 1,815

Compared to an estimated cost of production of paddy at Rs 2,403 a quintal in Odisha, farmers in the state lose Rs 588 per quintal when they sell their produce to the government at the Minimum Support Price (MSP).This was evident from the statement of Odisha's agriculture minister Arun Kumar Sahoo in the Assembly.
"According to an estimation done for 2018-19 crop year, the cost of production of a quintal of paddy in Odisha is Rs 2,403," Sahoo said while replying to a question of BJP member Mohan Majhi.
