S Goa District Hospital will be known as Hospicio Hospital: Vishwajit

The Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, on Friday, assured that new South Goa District Hospital will be known as Hospicio Hospital, and the arrangement for audio-visual presentation on the history of Hospicio and information on its founder Padre Miranda will be made at old hospital building.
Replying on the private member resolution, moved by Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro, the Minister said that the government has already taken in-principle decision to continue with the name Hospicio for new South Goa District Hospital, Margao.
Faleiro had demanded that new South Goa District Hospital be named as Padre Miranda District Hospital as he who struggled to construct and establish the Hospicio Hospital.
The Health Minister said that as there is no precedent in the past in the health department of naming hospitals after individuals, thus it would not be right to name the new district hospital after Padre Miranda.
“The government has high regards and respect to the personality like Padre Miranda for their contribution to the society. Padre Miranda was a great individual and we can find other way to recognise his contribution,” Rane said, adding that the government has decided to set up medical rehabilitation centre in old Hospicio building wherein the arrangement for audio-visual presentation will be done to ‘portrait’ history of Hospicio.
