Nagaland minister calls on Choudhary

Nagaland minister for Soil & Water Conservation, V Kashiho Sangtam, along with commissioner-secretary for Soil & Water Conservation Vikeyie Kenya, called on Union Minister of State Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Kailash Choudhary, on July 10 at New Delhi. A late update informed that Sangtam and Kenya briefed the Union minister about issues and problems being faced by farmers in Nagaland.

The updates stated that the visiting Nagaland minister highlighted that the state lacks in the industry sector and that the state depends mainly on agriculture ‘to boost’ its economy. They also told the minister that even though the state’s government had been making attempts to boost the economy by developing infrastructure and also by setting up new agriculture programmes, ‘economic growth is not at the rate that has been expected.’ In this connection, they urged the Union minister to develop the agriculture sector in Nagaland through various schemes and programme in his ministry.

This is to enhance ‘economic growth especially to improve organic farming and surplus production of agricultural products and improve water facilities and soil,’ the updates stated. To this, Choudhary was stated to have assured the delegation ‘full support to Nagaland in all the field of development for self-sustained future’ of the state.
