Tripura Governor Kaptan Solanki Urges Fish Farmers To Up Production

Tripura Governor Prof Kaptan Singh Solanki has urged the fish farmers of the State to make Tripura self-sufficient in fish production. He said this after inaugurating a program organized by Tripura Fisheries College at Lambuchera to mark the 19th National Fisheries Day on July 10.
Fish is a popular food item in Tripura and the entire Northeast but its production is less to meet the demand, forcing the region to depend on imports from other States and Bangladesh. The Governor said that increasing fish production will help in the economic development of the region.
Fish farmers from all the eight northeastern States attended the program.
The Governor planted a tree in the Fisheries College where a quiz competition also was organized. The best fish farmers from all the eight northeastern States were awarded a certificate and Rs 4,000 each.
It may be mentioned here that scientist Hiralal Choudhury initiated artificial breading of fish on July 10, 1957. Thereafter, this day is celebrated as National Fisheries Day to commemorate that landmark achievement.
