Dhavalikar assures Shapur-Ponda locals of installing traffic signals

Following the demonstration held by the residents of Shapur, Ponda, for raising their demand for the construction of an underpass at the Safa Masjid junction, the former PWD Minister and Marcaim MLA Sudin Dhavalikar, on Monday, inspected the site along with PWD engineers, and assured the locals of keeping the junction ‘open’ for to-and-fro traffic,  with the installation of the traffic signals there.
“Considering the peoples’ demand, the PWD has decided to keep the Safa Masjid junction open for the vehicles,  and for the safety reasons, the PWD will install traffic signals at the junction with a timer,” said Dhavalikar, while addressing the media  following the site inspection.
The Marcaim MLA further said that “the PWD had planned an underpass at the Safa Masjid junction, but the Archeological Survey of India opposed it. And due to this, the PWD was forced to make changes in the plan.”
“Though I am not the Minister of PWD, I assured the locals of Shapur that the new flyover will be opened only after the installation of the traffic signal at the Safa Masjid junction. I will speak with the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and also with the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari regarding the demand of the Shapur locals for the construction of an underpass, and will try once again to get permission from the Archaeological Survey of India,” said Dhavalikar.
He urged the locals of Shapur to support and not to oppose the opening of the flyover along the Curti bypass road of the Ponda- Belgaum highway.
