Women are the backbone of society & family: Mizoram CM Zoramthanga

Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga addressed the 45th rising day of the Mizo Hmeichhia Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP) at Zemabawk YMA in Aizawl on Saturday. MHIP is the lone women’s NGO in Mizoram.
Speaking at the function, the CM said that women are the backbone of every society and family. He urged them to take an active part in helping the government to fight against alcohol, drugs and tobacco. He also encouraged them to promote a healthy and active lifestyle.
Different branches of MHIP held functions and community services at their respective localities as the general headquarters of the NGO was suspended following a court order on June 17 this year.
The MHIP general headquarters’ scheduled election for April 17 was suspended following a complaint lodged against the office bearers over alleged illegal distribution of money to other NGOs. MHIP was established on June 6, 1974 with its headquarters in Aizawl. The organisation is further divided in seven sub-headquarters, 16 blocks and 700 branches.
At Aizawl, various branches organised sports activities and community services to clean streets and public places. At the Kolasib sub-headquarters; various branches donated money to Hope Centre, a health clinic to provide medical care and counseling to substance abusers and HIV-positive persons. Hope Centre is an initiative of the MHIP’s Vairengte block.
