Several protesters injured in Chandigarh after police used water cannons

Nearly a dozen people including police personnel were injured in Chandigarh on Wednesday after the police used water cannons to disperse the protesters besides stopping them from marching towards the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh's residence.

The protesters under the banner of Lok Insaaf Party wanted to meet Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to submit him a memorandum apprising him their water woes besides not releasing water to Pakistan.

Chandigarh Police had already barricaded the road leading to the Punjab Chief Minister's residence. When the protesters started marching towards the residence, they were stopped by the Chandigarh Police officials. The police resorted to the use of water cannons as protesters holding placards were trying to cross the barricades.

The water canons also hit media persons besides police officials. One photojournalist was also injured when water cannons hit him. The protesters could not move towards Captain Amarinder Singh's residence as they were detained by the police.
