The Polavaram project on Godavari river in Andhra Pradesh will cause "permanent injury" to the interests of Odisha, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said on Monday and sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention to stop its construction immediately.
Mr Patnaik, who had earlier written several letters to the Centre opposing the project, wrote to the prime minister in the wake of the environment ministry's recent decision to keep the stop work order in abeyance for a further period of two years.
"I would earnestly request you to kindly intervene in the matter and give appropriate direction to stop the construction work of the Polavaram Project immediately until all the pending issues are resolved," Mr Patnaik wrote to the Prime Minister
