In a first in country, MMC launches on-line complaint web portal

This is for the first time in country that Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) took an important initiative under which it made the system of lodging complaint against medical practitioner easier. On Wednesday, MMC under the Digital India Initiative of Government of Maharashtra, has launched the Online Complaint Web Portal at the hands of Maharashtra Minister of Medical Education Girish Mahajan in presence of Dr Shivkumar S Utture, President of MMC; Dr Ajeet Gopchade, Vice-President and Sanjay Deshmukh, Registrar.

Two major objectives that were planned by Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) included registration and licensing of modern medical practitioners and conducting inquiry and hearing concerning complaints filed by aggrieved parties against medical practitioners. During the last year, Maharashtra Medical Council has achieved 100% digitalisation in registration, renewal of registration and certification of modern medical practitioners. Dr Shivkumar S Utture, President of Maharashtra Medical Council told ‘The Hitavada’, “Maharashtra Medical Council is the first council in India to launch this online web portal which will go a long way in giving fair and speedy responses in the time bound manner regarding complaint filed in Maharashtra Medical Council against Registered Medical Practitioners and would make the whole complaint system more transparent and effective which would be advantageous to both the aggrieved party and the respondent medical practitioners.”

Advantages of the ‘Online Complaint Web Portal’ include it will have transparent and effective complaint management system. The work would become paperless. It will also become easier sending online cases to Council Members in a time bound manner. With everything available online the response would be fair and speedy. Complainant and Registered Medical Practitioners don’t have to ask repeatedly at Council office about the status of their cases, as they can easily get the status of the complaint and the stage it has reached online. It will serve as an outlet for complainant redressal. It will also streamline and systemise the grievance reporting.
