It’s a consolidation of devotees across religions in LS polls: NSS

Nair Service Society (NSS) general secretary G.Sukumaran Nair on Saturday said the results of the Lok Sabha elections in Kerala were the outcome of a “consolidation of devotees across religions”.
Presenting the 105th annual budget of the NSS at Perunna near here, Mr. Nair said he did not subscribe to the view of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee that the victory of the United Democratic Front in the polls was on account of minority consolidation. The annual budget envisages an income and expenditure of Rs. 122.5 crore.

In his reply to the suggestions raised by executive council members, Mr. Nair accused the Left Democratic Front government of hurting the sentiments of devotees through its intervention in the Sabarimala issue.
The Bharatiya Janata Party, on the other hand, treated it as a tool to maximize its performance in the elections.
“The BJP, despite in a position to help the beleaguered devotees, chose to organize protests against the State government as different from the Congress, which sought a legal recourse besides staging protests at the same time,” said Mr. Nair. “The UDF’s defeat in Alappuzha was the result of an inner-party struggle, as evident from the vote share of the candidates in Haripad and Alappuzha town,” he said.
