Chants of Jai Shri Ram reach West Bengal Legislative Assembly

A day after Jai Shri Ram chants reverberated through the halls of Parliament, its echo reached West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. The newly elected BJP MLAs chanted Jai Shri Ram in assembly after taking oath to office despite strict warning against saying anything other than the oath text by Speaker of the House.
West Bengal Legislative Assembly Speaker Biman Bandopadhaya had issued a stern warning, before the swearing-in ceremony, against any sort of chanting or sloganeering during, before or after the oath. The speaker had asked the leaders to stick to the written text, but the newly elected legislators did not pay any heed.
While a BJP leader chanted Jai Shri Ram after the oath, a TMC MLA said Jai Hind. Both were chided by the speaker.
Joyel Murmu, the newly-elected BJP MLA from Habibpur Legislative Assembly who chanted Jai Shri Ram after taking oath, justified his actions. "Nobody has asked me to say anything. The words came out of my mouth. I cannot do anything with that and I don't think it's a mistake to chant 'Jai Shri Ram'," Joyel Murmu said.
Another BJP MLA from Madarihat, Manoj Tigga said, "We can say 'Jai Shri Ram' because as Christians have Jesus, Muslims have Allah, we have 'Jai Shri Ram'. The entire assembly was so excited [during chanting], which means that there will more chantings of 'Jai Shri Ram' in the upcoming days.
