Congress leader objects shifting of Army training unit from Shimla to Meerut, writes to Rajnath Singh

Congress leader Anand Sharma has written to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh over the proposed shifting of the headquarters of Army Training Command from Shimla in Himachal Pradesh to Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. In his letter, the Congress leader sought the defense minister's intervention to "retain Army Training Command (ARTRAC) in Shimla."

"I am given to understand that the logic being extended that there is a shortage of accommodation at Shimla post-merger of DGMT and ARTRAC, lacks substance as adequate infrastructure is available in the adjoining Jutogh cantonment," the letter read.
