MNS, BJP in race to claim credit for hospital project

The 200-bed M T Agarwal hospital in Mulund (W) is to be upgraded to a 470-bed super specialty hospital by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. Now, there is competition between Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and the Bharatiya Janata Party for taking credit for the redevelopment of this hospital. BJP corporator Samita Kamble and MNS office bearers have put up hoardings claiming credit for this project. Member of Parliament Manoj Kotak was to conduct the bhoomi pujan on Tuesday. But MNS went ahead and conducted the bhoomi pujan first.
MNS workers raised anti-BJP slogans with great enthusiasm. This hospital serves people from Thane, Mulund and Bhandup. However, since five years the hospital was in a dilapidated state and was unable to serve patients in adequate manner. MNS had taken out three morchas against the situation and demanded action. The then BJP corporator, Prakash Gangadhare had sat on a fast and had surveyed the premises thrice. Finally the services shifted to another location in Mulund and the premises were vacated. The old premises will make way for a brand new 10-storey BMC will be spending approximately Rs 340 crore on this redevelopment project.
