BSP leader, nephew shot dead in UP's Bijnor; assailants caught in CCTV

A BSP leader and his nephew were shot dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district by unidentified assailants just days after the results for the Lok Sabha polls were declared. The incident took place in broad daylight on Tuesday and is the third stack against workers of political parties, in the state after poll results.

The assailants, who opened several rounds of fire on the BSP worker Haji Ahsan (55) and his nephew Shadab (28), were captured by the CCTV camera while they were fleeing the spot after perpetrating the crime. The police have claimed that the culprits will soon be behind the bars.

The incident took place at around 3 pm when BSP leader Haji Ahsan (55) and his nephew Shadab (28), a property dealer by profession, were sitting in their office and were reading religious scripture when unknown men opened fire at them. Both succumbed to bullet injuries during treatment.

IG, Muradabad, Ramit Sharma claimed that the murderers will soon be nabbed after the CCTV footage surfaced. A BSP leader and his nephew were shot dead by three assailants here on Tuesday, police said.

This is the third such attack against the workers of political parties after the announcement of Lok Sabha poll results.

A close aide of newly elected Amethi MP Smriti Irani was shot dead on May 25. In Bulandshahr, Samajwadi Party leader and former MP Kamlesh Balmiki were found dead under mysterious circumstances at his home on Monday.
